Anticipate and befriend: two tips from our new Luxembourgish member
Eurojuris has welcomed a new member from the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg, Lars Goslings. A dynamic and positive personality who shows a great deal of enthusiasm towards both our network and its youth chapter Jurismus.
Can you tell us what kind of lawfirm you work for?
My lawfirm is based solely in Luxembourg-ville. I would say we are a medium-sized cabinet, and our clients are mostly companies, ranging from one-person companies, to huge multinationals. However, I observed that a lot of CEOs or shareholders subsequently became our clients for their private cases, because they appreciate working with a lawyer they already know. We go from small litigations on work law or rental law, to international contracts or mergers and acquisitions.
How did you join Eurojuris?
I met Hans Jonkhout (who is president of Eurojuris at the time of writing) through a common partner, and he told me about Eurojuris and its purpose. I was very much tempted to join because it seemed to be such an important international network. Keep in mind that I am active in a very small country, and Luxembourg is centered on international services, so for me the idea of joining a wide international network was very interesting.
What are your projects for the network?
I expect to take part in as many congresses as I can. And because I am lucky to be only 38 years old, I can still join Jurismus for a couple of years!
I will be present at the upcoming Tenerife Eurojuris Congress, and it will be my very first activity with the network. I also look forward to Jurismus activities very much, as they seem very relaxed, less formal. The network is all about providing a good opportunity to meet colleagues from abroad, and I intend to use this as much as I can; I hope to go as far as friendship in the long term with some of the people I will meet. Jurismus is interesting also because it is smaller than the main network and thus Jurismus events are smaller committees where I feel more comfortable meeting people on a personal basis. I think Jurismus is an excellent introduction to Eurojuris.
What is the most important thing for a lawyer?
We must be proactive. We must anticipate the cases that your client may encounter, in order to be ready in advance. Today work doesn't fall from the sky anymore, we must do a lot of prospecting to our clients to find your own market. I think there was a time when lawyers were able to just wait for clients to call them, but that time is long gone; now we must definitely go towards them. And we must do it with solutions we have anticipated.
